Wastewater from butchers' shops and slaughterhouses is heavily contaminated with fats and other organic substances such as faeces and hair. Wastewater treatment plants for breweries

Brewery wastewater is generally polluted with two different classes of pollutants. In the direct brewing process, biological substances such as yeasts, starch or sugar compounds are increasingly introduced into the wastewater. By cleaning brewery plants (boilers, pipelines, etc.) and washing empties, large quantities of chemical cleaning detergents are also discharged into the wastewater of breweries.

Some large breweries use special wastewater treatment processes to recycle substances such as diatomaceous earth and return them to the production process. Wastewater from biogas plants

Biogas plants produce considerable surface water from silage and traffic areas that is highly contaminated with COD and nitrogen. Converted into population equivalents for wastewater treatment plants, add as comparative value the freight rates of the existing approx. 8,500 biogas plants across Germany amount to a total freight estimated at 8 million - 10 million PE. The pollution loads of these surface waters represent an enormous risk for our receiving waters and our groundwater if the current practice of agricultural utilisation is continued.

ATB Water has set itself the goal of eliminating these loads cost-effectively by retrofitting aerators, using the collection basins that are usually already available, and thus protecting our groundwater without endangering the economic existence of the plant operators. "Out of sight - but not out of mind for decades to come" - this could be the slogan for numerous landfills established in recent decades. For many years to come, the rainwater seeping away there has to be collected and treated at great expense.

Due to the high organic load, unwanted and uncontrolled anaerobic degradation processes then occur in the collection basins, resulting in enormous odour pollution and strong acidification. Wastewater treatment ponds

In rural areas, several thousand non-aerated and aerated pond wastewater treatment plants are operated in Germany, and in some regions the share of wastewater treatment plants is still 30% or more. These ponds are mostly designed for sizes of less than 5.000 P.E. and a simple carbon decomposition and do not meet today's inflow loads and outflow requirements.

However, by cost-effective retrofitting of aerators and other components and adaptation of the process technology, the existing volumes can usually be expanded to further nutrient elimination and higher capacity without modifications. Based on numerous practical cases, ATB is able to offer a suitable expansion concept for practically every pond treatment plant with the corresponding technical equipment, on request also with a rental option for testing.
